{"id":11,"date":"2011-10-17T17:02:19","date_gmt":"2011-10-17T17:02:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/appalachianstewards.org\/?page_id=11"},"modified":"2014-05-19T14:34:43","modified_gmt":"2014-05-19T14:34:43","slug":"history-of-asf","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/appalachianstewards.org\/index.php\/about-us\/history-of-asf\/","title":{"rendered":"History of ASF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\">During the pre-construction permitting phase of Longview Power\u2019s coal-fired electric plant in Maidsville, WV,<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"> three national environmental groups \u2013 the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sierraclub.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sierra Club<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tu.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Trout Unlimited<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npca.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Parks Conservation Association<\/a> \u2013 collectively challenged an air permit issued to Longview by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\">The groups questioned emission limits and the enforcement and monitoring requirements of the permit, as well as Longview&#8217;s plan to mitigate the impact of sulfur dioxide emission in national parks and wilderness areas in and around Appalachia. <\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\">The parties ultimately reached an agreement about the issues in question.
