Acceptance of Privacy Policy

The Appalachian Stewardship Foundation (“ASF”) recognizes the trust you have placed in us by providing your personal information. Therefore, we have established this privacy policy to inform you of how we will protect that information.

This Privacy Policy applies only to information gathered through appalachianstewards.org (“our site” or “this site”) and does not necessarily reflect ASF’s practices with respect to information gathered through off-line means.

This Privacy Policy is part of the terms and conditions set forth in our Terms & Conditions. By using this site, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, you are not authorized to use this site. ASF reserves the right to modify or amend the terms of our Privacy Policy from time to time without notice. If you continue to use our site after ASF posts changes to this Privacy Policy, it will mean that you accept those changes.

Children Under Age 18: If you are under 18 years of age, do not use this site unless you are an emancipated minor or have legal parental or guardian consent to accept these the terms of the Privacy Policy and are fully able to abide by them. ASF does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. If you are under 13, you may not submit any personally identifiable information on this site.

Information Collected and Stored Automatically for Browsing the Site: If you visit the ASF website to read or download information, such as a press release, ASF’s information system will collect and store certain technical information about your visit to help ASF improve its site. ASF does not collect your name, email, mailing address or similar information. ASF only collects the name of the domain (machine or website) from which you are accessing the Internet, the name and/or Internet Protocol address of the server being used to access the site, name and version of your web browser, the information you are accessing, and similar web usage statistics. This information is being collected through “session cookies,” which are small bits of text placed on a user’s hard drive for the duration of a web session, i.e., for as long as your browser is accessing the ASF website at one time. As soon as you close the ASF site, the cookie expires.

Users Who Voluntarily Provide their Personal Information: You may choose to send ASF information which personally identifies you. For example, you may post a message, comment on a blog, or email ASF a question. Such information is used to respond to your request, help ASF get the information you have requested, and may be used to send you information about ASF and environmental issues that may be of interest to you. ASF also uses the information for the specific purposes identified on web pages that request information. ASF may store such information for up to two years, unless you request that ASF delete such information sooner.

Information Collected and Stored for Grant Applicants:
You may choose to submit an “expression of interest” (pre-proposal) or, if invited by ASF, a full grant application. If you do so, the organization that operates that part of ASF’s site, FormSite, may use “persistent cookies” or similar technology to allow you to begin filling out the form, save your responses, and return to your responses at a later time for final submission to ASF. Persistent cookies are small bits of text saved to your hard drive to allow ASF’s or FormSite’s computer to identify your computer the next time you log onto the ASF website. FormSite’s Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy apply to your submission of any information for funding through www.appalachianstewards.org.

ASF also will collect the information requested on the expression of interest and grant application, including but not limited to information about the project that you propose receive grant funding; the grant applicant’s contact information, and role and responsibilities as related to the proposed project; and the contact information, roles and responsibilities of other individuals likely to be involved in the proposed project.

Information Collected and Stored for Donations:
When you choose to make an online donation, ASF’s contractor, “Network for Good,” needs to know your name, e-mail address, mailing address, and credit card information. The Privacy Policy provided by Network for Good applies to the collection, use, disclosure and security of information you submit to make a donation. Network for Good will provide ASF your name, contact information and the amount of your donation. ASF does not sell, trade, or rent your personal or financial information to others. ASF may periodically make our donor list available to ASF’s founding organizations, Trout Unlimited, National Parks Conservation Association and Sierra Club. If you prefer that your name be omitted from this list, please contact us at webmaster@appalachianstewards.org. Regarding security, Network for Good [takes steps to encrypt your credit card information and protect your privacy; however, no transmission of data over the Internet or any other public network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

Sharing of Your Personally Identifiable Information: The personal information you choose to provide ASF, through a blog comment, grant application or otherwise, will be shared with ASF employees, directors, consultants, contractors and affiliates who need to know the information to perform their duties. The information also may be shared by ASF with third parties, if ASF believes in its reasonable opinion that sharing the information will help advance the goals of your proposed project. In addition, information submitted for grant funding will be shared with FormSite, as provided in the FormSite Privacy Policy, and information submitted to make an online donation will be shared with Network for Good. ASF may also use or disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) conform to applicable law or comply with legal process served on ASF or this site; (b) protect and defend ASF’s rights or property, this site or ASF’s users, and (c) act under emergency circumstances to protect the personal safety of ASF, its affiliates, agents, site users, or the public.

Third-Party Services: ASF has third parties perform services on our behalf, such as data processing, marketing, analytics, credit card processing, advocacy and outreach, etc. ASF currently uses services of FormSite for grant applications and Paypal to accept online donations. These third parties have access to your personal information only as needed to perform their services for ASF and are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of the personal information.

Links to Third-Party Sites: ASF provides links to websites if ASF believes they may be useful to ASF web site visitors or necessary for the performance of ASF functions. This includes commercial websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube. These other websites are not within ASF’s control. ASF does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any information on these sites, and does not endorse any of these sites. Be aware that the privacy protection provided to you on ASF may not be available at the external link. Once you link to another site, you are subject to the policies of that site.

Complaint Procedure: If you suspect that ASF has handled your personal information in a manner that does not comply with the Privacy Policy, please contact ASF by e-mailing an explanation to webmaster@appalachianstewards.org.
